Key Cutting Information

This key comes complete with all electronics and can be supplied either blank (uncut) or cut to your vehicle. To find out more about our cutting service please see below.

Keys Cut to Key Number

We can cut keys to the manufacturer’s key number (often referred to as the ‘key code’). For this particular blade the key number will usually be on a black plastic key tag and will start with two numbers followed by an additional five numbers, e.g. 12 01234 / 62 01234.

NOTE: The key number will not be on the key itself. Keys cut to key number will be cut to the original locks of the vehicle. If the vehicle has previously had the locks changed then obviously this key will not work. Keys cut to key number are non-refundable.

Keys Cut to Photo

If the option for ‘Cut to Photo’ is shown in the key cutting drop down box we can cut the key to a clear picture of the blade. The blade should ideally be on a white background with the end of the blade facing towards the right. The picture should not be blurred and the cuts of the key should be easily identifiable. You can see an example picture below:

What is Volkswagen Group MLB platform?

The Volkswagen Group MLB platform is the company’s platform strategy, announced in 2012, for shared modular construction of its longitudinal, front-engined front wheel drive and four wheel drive automobiles.

It was developed by Audi and first introduced in 2007 on the Audi A5 then, chronologically, on the Audi A4, Audi Q5, Audi A8, Audi A7, Audi A6, Porsche Macan and the second generation Audi Q7 (MLB Evo). Until 2015, only Audi and Porsche were using the MLB platform.

MLB-based models

  • Audi A5 (Typ 8T/8F), 2007–2016
  • Audi Q5 (Typ 8R), 2008–2017
  • Audi A4 (B8) (Typ 8K), 2009–2016
  • Audi A8 (D4) (Typ 4H), 2010–2017
  • Audi A7 (Typ 4G), 2010–2017
  • Audi A6 (C7) (Typ 4G), 2011–2018
  • Porsche Macan (Type 95B), 2013–present
  • Volkswagen Phideon (Typ 3E), 2016–present

The Volkswagen Group D platform is a series of automobile platforms from the German concern Volkswagen Group. It has been used for large luxury automobiles. Originally used by the Audi marque, it is also latterly used by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars, and Bentley marques.

The third generation of the Audi A8 was introduced in Miami on 30 November 2009. The chassis was built on the Volkswagen D4 platform. This model combines an aluminium Audi Space Frame (ASF) structure but no longer uses the D platform, but the Audi-developed MLB component matrix.
